We are a bunch of parents who are doing okay but feel in need of some good guidance on parenting. Because of this we tracked down a good parenting course that we can work through together as a group.
There are several courses in the series but we have decided we will do the 5 to 15's first and then if we like it we may tackle some of the other courses by the same organisation.
We are not doing this because we believe we have all the answers and want to tell others how to do it, in fact far from it. We are just ordinary parents who want to do the best for our children.
Is designed by the Family Caring Trust (www.familycaring.co.uk).
It comprises of eight weekly sessions to help parents of children five to fifteen years old to improve their communication skills and create a framework of discipline and respect in their families. There is a video (about ten minutes' input for each session) to begin each session and then discussion and exercises (don't worry we won't force anyone to do anything embarassing). There is an additional Christian dimension to these courses which we will be doing because we are a church after all but this is not compulsary! We understand that this takes the form of an extra session at the end of the other sessions.The courses are widely used by social services, and by well over a thousand schools and adult education bodies, and they have been adopted or endorsed by the following organisations:
